Evansville Md March 14 Thomas Murphy temperance revivalist began a crusade against liquor drinking last night. Three thousand people attended and three hundred signed the pledge. The interest grows and room shortages forced several hundred to be turned away. Murphy is gaining momentum as crowds stay loyal and more signers are added.
At 106 Smith Street Isaac Haughton applied a lit lamp to a supposedly empty glycerine carpet paste barrel. An explosion followed, shattering the premises and badly injuring Mr. Vaughton.
Isaac Heffelfinger, a Huntertown resident, was found dead in a haystack near Monroeville. The death is believed to be from exposure due to bitter cold, as he had no fixed home and depended on farm work for shelter.
Yonkers on March 14 reports a fatal fight between Cornelius F. Devitt aged fifteen and Albert G. Wolf aged sixteen. Devitt knocked Wolf down and Wolf died after being picked up. Both boys were connected to local clubs.
Berlin reports a Strasburg letter stating several expulsions from Alsace will occur for non natives with conditional residence permits. Mulhouse will be especially affected as the province enforces removals.

Fire destroyed the store of F. N. Monroe, chairman of the County Prohibition Party Committee, with an attempt on night watchman Tom Clark. Monroe had been warned by saloon keepers to stop his prohibition activities.
Chicopee Mass March 13 The Ames Works completed an equestrian bronze statue of General Albert Sydney Johnston. The piece designed by sculptor Doyle of New York will be unveiled in New Orleans on April 16 after two months of continuous work.
March 13 report states about five thousand people attended the funeral of Mrs. Neebe wife of Oscar Neebe the Anarchist in Carcado. No violent speeches or demonstrations occurred and there were no religious rites. The husband did not attend.
Brooklyn on March 13. Beecher's will leaves a life insurance to his widow and the residue of his estate to his children. His sons Henry B. Beecher William C. Beecher and Herbert F. Beecher with their brother in law Samuel Scoville are made executors and trustees.
Pittsburgh March 13 Dr James Mc Cann a leading physician is seriously ill from blood poisoning contracted last Thursday during an autopsy. His recovery is doubtful.
Philadelphia report says Geo Simon aged thirteen was found hanging in the cellar of his home Read an account of a girl who died by her own hand and may have influenced him to imitate the tragedy The incident underscores concerns over youth self harm discussed in local circles.
In Chicago on March 11 a denominational political body, the Hebrew Political Club, began in the Seventh Ward under a state charter. Composed of Hebrews in good standing from local synagogues, it starts with 125 members and will back candidates favorable to the Jewish race. In Pittspurgh Pennsylvania on Green street four mayoral employees cleaned a vault when John Myers, holding a lit torch, triggered a blast. The explosion hurled him and ignited flames that spread through the building. The vault was filled with gas leaking from a mains, and Myers is not expected to recover.
Daukas Texas March 10 Prohibitionists secured from the State Legislature the submission of a prohibition amendment to the State constitution and plan a statewide campaign. A fund of 300000 dollars is being raised for temperance orators while the Liquor Dealers Association has reorganized and will start with a 250000 dollar campaign fund.
Samuel P. Besse was hanged in PryMot Massachusetts this morning at 9 33 and cut down at 9 03. He murdered Richard N. Lawton of Westport on December 23, 1885 to rob him. Reporters were excluded and only witnesses by law admitted.
