Tragic School Fire Kills Fifteen in New York
A blaze under a school stairwell at the German Roman Catholic Church of the Most Holy Redeemed on South Street caused a panic among 700 plus pupils. Narrow stairs and inward opening doors trapped many, resulting in at least fifteen deaths among young girls and many injuries. Rescue efforts by police and bystanders saved some, but the scene was chaotic and heartbreaking.
