Columbus Ohio district court found lumber agent Moore guilty by jury of defrauding the city by presenting vouchers for poles for the electric lighting plant that were never delivered. An alleged confession stating Moore shared $4000 with William Wilcox was not admitted. Moore had collected 622 for seventy five undelivered poles. Wilcox faces trial next.
Charles Miller and Albert Miller, brothers nine miles north of Marietta, quarreled over a four rail fence. Charles shot Albert tearing away his left hand and nearly killing him from blood loss. Albert was taken here for amputation. Charles was arrested by Chief Dye after Albert’s son threatened with a shovel. The mother says Charles had often threatened to kill Albert.
Marion Ohio. Marie Boger Lenora Clapsaddle Carrie Kellar and Phoebe McKinstry picnickers walked into Rock Fork quicksand sinking to the waist within minutes. Their screams attracted Herbert Brewer a farmer who with a small skiff rescued them. The girls nearly collapsed from fright and needed medical care.
After 23 hours of deliberation the jury acquitted Charles Doll of the murder of Fisherman Jack Partlow. Doll rose from his seat and shook hands with the jurors but was restrained by his attorneys.
Lieut Juliuss Von Demmer on four year leave from the German army becomes attached to the U S engineers. He will serve in the Third Battalion at Fort Leavenworth Kansas during his American assignment.
