Boise June 11 cross examination by Orchard counsel sought to frame a widespread counter conspiracy by enemies of the Western Federation of Miners. The defense aimed to show Orchard embellished crimes and acted under Detective McFarland's influence while linking Haywood Moyer and Pettibone to none of the plotted acts. The testimony covered the Independence station dynamiting and the attempt on Fred Bradley's family, portraying the plot as engineered by mine owners and railway managers to threaten union miners.
Dr T Frank Gifford of New Jersey urged dentists in Northern Ohio to practice sanitary kissing. He claimed germs lurk in every kiss and advised sterilization after each kiss, noting kissing can spread disease while praising personal restraint.
In Cleveland, 60 year old David Evans is accused by his nephew of theft of affection from his wife Margaretta Evans. The nephew seeks 30000 dollars from the uncle, claiming the elder man acted as a lover and visited their home under pretenses. Cromwell Dixon, 14, flew an hour in a cigar shaped airship at Columbus Driving Park before 500 spectators. The craft used no engine and relied on a bicycle pedal powered propeller with a bow propeller and rear rider control. Dixon rode on a diamond frame bicycle seat as his mother watched with pride.
Port Clinton Ohio fishermen John Morgan and others snag a flint-lock gun in a carp net. English make relic likely from the revolutionary era with a bright silver plate. Flint in place the hammer drawn, well preserved despite long water exposure near Toussaint Creek west of the state rifle range.
Norfolk dispatch notes a fire in the Princess Anne Hotel kitchen at Virginia Beach that wrecked the hotel and cost at least two lives, likely Mary Carter and John Eaton. About eighty guests escaped in their night clothes as money, clothes, and jewelry worth thousands burned. The hotel office safe with books and receipts was destroyed.
Marion, Ohio. George Kenyon, 33, who killed his father eight years ago and saved his mother from a death blow, leaves for Mound City to take a Methodist Episcopal pastorate after believing he was called by God to serve as a minister. He had previously failed a licensure exam but later earned a minister's certificate at the Upper Sandusky conference last April.
Columbus, O. Charles Jordan was indicted by a federal court on attempting to blackmail Mrs. T. J. Emery of Cincinnati and, after defense argued mental irresponsibility due to his mother's death in an insane hospital, received a 60 day jail sentence.
Columbus, Ohio Otto Miller, 25, cashier for the Schlitz Brewing Co. agency, has been missing since yesterday. Emery Neil, auditor for the company, is conducting a thorough search of the books to determine the cash condition. Miller is bonded for 5000 dollars.
In New Orleans on June 11 a letter signed Black Hand demanded six thousand dollars as ransom for 8-year-old Walter Lamana son of a prominent Italian undertaker. The boy vanished two days earlier and police have searched without success.
In Springfield Ohio the common pleas court heard an application for a receiver for the Farmers Co operative Harvesting Machine Co. The company is capitalized at 500000 dollars and was organized three years ago by William N Whitely.
A blaze starting in Tittonville four miles north of here burned the Knights of Pythias armory and Gallagher stables. Several dwellings caught fire but were saved. Loss totaled 7600 dollars with about one third insured. Origin of the fire remains unknown.
Secretary McCarter of the Ohio State Bar Association reports the executive committee has secured Hon. Charles Nagel of St. Louis to give the annual address on July 10 at Put in Bay.
In Niles Ohio Robert Noble uncovered a wooden floor plug in his father’s barn and pried it open with a penknife revealing one hundred five dollar bills. The currency was issued by the Farmers bank of Wyrankfort Kentucky in 1864.
In Connellsville Pennsylvania on June 11 baby Mary Monaghan two is dead and her parents Mr and Mrs Jr J Monaghan are dying. Three others are in serious condition from burns after an explosion caused by escaped gas from a defective hose attached to a stove ignited by an oil lamp.
John Wade, a 31 year old farmer from Union County, died by suicide after three futile attempts at the State hospital by cutting his throat with glass. He had been admitted to the hospital three times.
Fred Howe, longtime newspaper proprietor and editor in northwestern Ohio, was accidentally run over and killed by a Lake Shore freight train while in the company of Fred Hill in Pettisville.
A violent earthquake shock lasting some time was felt in Guayaquil Ecuador causing panic. Authorities attribute the quake to activity from Mt Cotopaxi ejecting large quantities of rock.
Sheridan Wyoming June 11 Sheriff Guy and a Johnson County posse pursuing two Montana horse thieves shot and killed one robber who held up a Northern Pacific passenger train at Welch Spur recently. The second man escaped.
A Galion Ohio plant of the Galion Lumber Co. was entirely destroyed by fire after a lightning bolt wrecked the smokestack. Loss pegged at 25000 dollars with only partial insurance coverage.
Pat Sweeney, 70, an employee of the B and O S W railroad in Chillicothe, was struck by a vehicle while guiding a horse across the track and killed.
Lydia Reese filed a petition at the Cincinnati courthouse to declare her marriage to Johann Hoch void. Hoch, a bigamist who paid the electric chair penalty, had his widow seeking restoration of her pension.

Albert Niesing er, a plumber, was arrested in St Louis on the charge of throwing vitriol into the face of Lena Wunach after she refused his marriage proposal. Both of Mrs. Wunach’s eyes were burned out.
Dallas June 11 East bound passenger train No 6 on the Texas Pacific railroad wrecked near Edgewood. R M Flack chief mail clerk was probably fatally hurt and an assistant clerk and Bridge Foreman Lowery were seriously injured.
Elyria Ohio report of Decoration Day wreck on the Cleveland and Southwestern electric line where Margaret Butter aged 16 died after leg injuries. Her death raises toll to eight fatalities from the collision.
