Prof Angelo Heilprin of the National Geographical Society, aided by Ferdinand Clerc and Reid, ascended Mont Pelee in Martinique. La Soufriere on the island of St. Vincent remains active as an eruption at 3 00 this morning produced a tremendous explosion and earthquake shock. Dense vapor rose high forming a firelit cloud over the crater with vivid lightning inside. No damage occurred and the eruption ended after about an hour.

Brigands attacked a mule pack train toward Mazatlan carrying over 10000 dollars in silver bullion from the Pyramid Mining Co. at San Jose de Gracia. The guard was driven off, one man killed, and the robbers fled into the mountains with the bullion.

In Cantril Iowa on June 2 farm hand Albert Hale 21 shot Dora Donohue 16 in the heart and then killed himself He survived the self inflicted wound Hale cited jealousy as the motive Dora died in Cantril with authorities stating the tragedy followed a romance.
