A box shipped from Black River Falls to Chicago contained a 38 calibre revolver a razor chloroform and a cord stand. The messenger Pierce alerted Officer Riely and on train arrival the box was opened three men believed to be confederates were arrested in Sidney Lee Chicago jail. Authorities think a mail and express robbery was planned with unknown identities awaiting further details.
The Stein Manufacturing Company of Rochester received an order to craft a state style casket for General Grant. A cloth covered metallic casket with red cedar shell, purple silk velvet, silver mountings, and air tight design weighs 300 pounds. It will open full length with cream satin interior and U S G initials. The canopy for the coffin, used at Bishop Simpson’s funeral, was sent to Saratoga.
Bosroy July 24 report states a woman was found in the bay last night, her body secured in a sack with limbs severed. Autopsy shows she was strangled and then dismembered after death, corpse laid face down. No evidence of involvement by medical students.
Exnart Jvp July 25 reports a giant marsh snake three miles south of the city killed after a cow loss. A dynamite cartridge blew open its burrow, the eighteen foot long creature with sixteen inch girth slain. The event will be exhibited and is backed by local citizens.
General Grant will be interred in Central Park New York on August 8 after a stay in Albany overnight and in state at City Hall New York the following day. The body has been embalmed and faces described as life like. President Cleveland and Cabinet will attend the funeral amid nationwide mourning.

Gillan was killed and another wounded. two others reached a sister mine, returning to find two more dead, one identified as General Pesquieras, major domo of the Ojodeava ranch. Gillan was buried with military honors.
In Brazesville Arkansas on July 26 Miss Margaret Mills died after a strange incident in her room. The family heard odd noises and found her convulsed in a death struggle. Her false teeth had fallen into her throat and after removal she was pronounced dead from asphyxia.
In Sigourney Iowa on July 26 assailants entered the cellar of B S Brainard postmaster at Whatcheer to rescue seized beer. Inmates resisted and in the encounter three trespassers were shot. Thomas Day was killed and a second man wounded with his wound not yet known.
Mount Curry Junction Illinois July 26 John Moppin who killed Daniels Wednesday for marrying his daughter was taken from Mound City Jail and hanged to a tree this morning, a mob action ending the case.
Lonpos July 22 The royal wedding of Princess Beatrice to Henry Battenberg concluded amid pageantry. Queen and guests entered with cheers as Handel and Mendelssohn underscored the ceremony. Beatrice wore ivory satin with orange blossom wreath. Henry in white uniform. Bridesmaids in embroidered silk muslin and Mechlin lace complemented the royal procession.
