In BuFrFao New York on July 8 Jeremiah Donovan, 16, in charge of Gus Brideson’s cigar store on South Michigan street, ordered away several boys. When ignored he fired a double-barrel shotgun, killing Eddie O Kay, 7, in the breast. Donovan surrendered, distraught, claiming the gun was not loaded.
In Wilkes Barre on July 8 a violent explosion destroyed the boiler house at No 3 Colliery of the Delaware and Hudson Coal Company in Plymouth. Six boilers blew apart and surrounding buildings suffered damage. Fireman Edward Scott was fatally scalded and engineer Michael Gilligan seriously injured. cause of the blast remains unknown.
