In Altoona on June 30 John C Laar a 75 year old farmer attacked his wife with a butcher knife while she slept inflicting fatal wounds. He then attacked son Justin with an axe but was overpowered. The son fled to summon help and found his father had hanged himself from a tree near the house.
The 20th convention of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers opened in Niagara Falls on Monday. President C F Scott announced the institute increased membership by 44 percent last year.
Washington notice states that after July 31 1903 no bonds will be refunded or received for refunding by the treasury department under department circular No 54 dated March 26 1903.

Laura Mouser aged 14 dressed in her male companion’s clothes to elope with Willie Irwin 15. They went toward the Pennsylvania railroad yards when railroad men spotted the “pretty boy” and reported to police. Laura was taken to the police station in Columbus on June 30.

Burgess I McElroy a clerk in the Ohio house of representatives died at his Mt. Vernon home aged 45 after a bowel obstruction and a surgical operation. He was prominent in state politics, having served as state oil inspector under Governor McKinley and in 1898 led a bureau of the national Republican committee in Chicago.
In Toledo on June 30 13 year old Barney Frank a bootblack died of lockjaw from a blank cartridge injury to his left hand suffered when a toy revolver discharged prematurely at his home 1414 Walnut Street.
In Marysville Ohio on June 30 Peter Hartung a famed ballplayer who moved from Columbus attempted suicide by shooting himself and cutting his tyres. After remaining unsuccessful he swallowed poison in a medicine overdose. His condition is listed as critical and his wife is prostrated.
Fire in Ravenna Ohio on Sunday nearly ruined the Riddle Coach and Hearse Co facilities, causing about 250000 in losses with only 18000 insured. The blaze near White Hospital sparked panic among patients as sparks set about a dozen small buildings alight.
Delaware Ohio June 29 H J Mcculloch a wealthy and influential citizen died suddenly Sunday at age 65. For years he was a lumber merchant and served as president of the Delaware Savings Bank and as a director in the Delaware County National Bank.

The committee handling Western Reserve Academy in Hudson announces disposal decision. They propose gifting the academy property to the village of Hudson to manage due to ongoing financial difficulties.
Canton Ohio June 30 The Canton Steel Co will close down next Tuesday and the machinery of the plant is expected to be moved to Pittsburgh within the next few months. Several hundred men will be thrown out of work.
Charles Sul livan of Kings Mills attempted to alight from a PP. C. G. & St. excursion train as it moved through Morrow on Sunday evening and was dragged beneath the wheels. He died Monday.
Portsmouth Ohio June 29 Mrs Robey formerly of Washington D C threw herself into the river after leaving home saying she would not be seen again. Cause unknown.
Steubenville Ohio residents report John Berry and James Jackson from Pittsburg crawled into a sand house at La Belle iron works furnace to sleep on Saturday night. They were overcome by sulphur fumes. Jackson is dying and Berry is said to be in critical condition.
Harry H. Adkins was named receiver for the Star Petroleum Co on Monday in Lima Ohio. Frank H. Blackman of Detroit filed the application. The firm is capitalized at one million dollars and its assets are said to be heavily encumbered.
Springfield Ohio June 29 A buggy carrying two men was struck Sunday night by a Pennsylvania express near St Paris. The down grade track and high speed of the train caused both occupants to die.
Findlay Ohio June 29 Mrs Aaron Palmer of Mt Blanchart Sunday night swallowed sugar of lead and died soon after. She was a prominent figure in church and social circles.
Columbus Ohio June 30 Adj Gen Gyger notified that Maj Arthur Williams and Maj James S Rogers U S A have been detailed by the War Department to inspect the Ohio National Guard in camp at Newark August 17 to 24.
In Marysville Ohio a striking fact emerges from Union county vital statistics. For the years 1901 02 and 1902 03 the deaths total 176 in each period, a rare numerical coincidence noted by officials.
Feesburg Ohio June 30 Daniel Trout a pioneer resident died aged nearly 91. His wife aged 85 died two months earlier. They had been married over 65 years at her death.
In Hamilton Ohio on June 29 John Geisler aged 39 was fatally shot by his brother Charles Geisler who runs a saloon in Edgewood. Physicians say Geisler cannot live. Prosecuting Attorney Gard has taken the dying statement.
