Three Workmen Die After Derrick Fells From Scaffold
ATLANTA June 29 A derrick collapsed from the ninth floor of a new building, hurling three workers from the scaffold. Palmetto Ayres and Charles Cargill, both colored, aged 40 and 38, died on the ground. W M Brown, a white carpenter, was injured but survived after gripping a rope as he fell. The wreck crushed the two victims on the basement level. Brown and another worker escaped through a window. Superintendent Gannon claimed the deaths were intentional.
