Nyack New York January 29 for the first time in three years a complete ice bridge has formed across the Hudson at its widest point. The three and a half miles wide water between Nyack and Tarrytown is covered with seven inch ice.
Delaware Ohio man Mont Runyon currently jailed on a forged check charge allegedly confessed to Chief of Police Matthews that after an argument with his father near Moorefield West Virginia he shot him in a timber patch as punishment for alleged mistreatment of his wife. He claimed to have fled north and discarded his revolver in a stream.
Practically the entire stock of the Bell Dana Co on North Third street was ruined by fire and water. The stock is valued around 75000 with losses expected near 40000, insured. The six story building shared with E O Schoedinger’s metal business suffered considerable damage. The fire likely started from defective electric wires.
Dayton coroner Schuster opened an investigation into the East Third street crossing crash. Most victims are in satisfactory condition. The two gravest injuries involve Prof. Perry R. Mercer and Mrs. Thaddeus Rainby, with several others listed among the seriously hurt.
In Toledo the engine of Lake Shore passenger train No. 23 was derailed at Tower K and threw the locomotive from the track. Engineer J W Brunswick of Detroit was pinned under the engine for three hours in freezing temperatures with a broken leg and mangled arm. He was removed to St Vincent's hospital and may recover.
In Kent Ohio two months earlier Claudia Lemmons aged 21 told her parents she would die. Her father Amos reportedly appeared in a dream to his nephew Alva Lemmons who learned Claudia had died on the way to work. She was buried and her wishes followed.
Recession of the Ohio river below the flood line reveals Front and Second streets wrecked and the town front a debris field. Capt. J. C. James of Columbus, per Gov. Harris, has set up a daily commissary feeding many homeless flood sufferers.
Dayton Ohio resident Adam Stine, president of the soldiers relief board, asserts he is the Buckeye state’s top tobacco chewer. He says he has chewed more than 90,000 ounces over 62 years, is in good health at age 88, and believes chewing tobacco has lengthened his life. He estimates disposing of about eight acres of tobacco and that its cost would exceed a city lot price.
Prominent Cleveland women spearhead a drive to raise funds to return Frank Lucas, who deserted from the U S Navy two years ago to support his family, and was betrayed by his brother John a month ago. The effort aims to help Lucas reestablish his home and support his dependents.
Luxora Arkansas reports levee breach flooding the town with residents fleeing to second stories and rooftops. No loss of life yet, but suffering is severe and relief efforts begin as water encroaches homes and streets.

John T. Williams a 40 year old paying teller at Lincoln National Bank was found dead in Bronx Park with an empty bottle beside him. General Thomas L. James president of the bank said Williams accounts were straight.
Mrs Eliza Morton Fennimore aged 94 of Columbus Ohio died from burns after her gown caught fire from an open grate. She was stepmother of the late John C Fennimore a longtime insurance man in the city.
El Paso immigration officers discovered twenty six Japanese hiding in a box car near El Paso on January 29. Several women were disguising as boys. They had waded the Rio Grande to dodge the head tax.
The Big Four racing circuit with Bucyrus Marion Sycamore and Mr. Gilead arranged fall speed programs at a country fair. Wednesday events are left to each association.
Dayton Colorado reports a fatal accident as Sarah Finkelstein, 16, plummeted through an open shaft from the fifth floor of the American Cigar Co. plant. She sustained a broken neck, and rescuers rushed to the scene in a grim effort to save her. Local authorities opened an investigation into the incident.
Undertaker James N Richards halted a Northern Ohio train at Boulta flag station to stop the 2 15 trip forcing a stranded bride elect to walk five miles through snow. He then telephoned Lima to alert officials. Three hours later the engineer returned 17 miles to Akron bringing the bride to her waiting fiancé and the wedding proceeded on time.
Akron inmate Thomas McCaskey says police forced his confession to placing an infernal machine in Andrew McIntosh’s toolchest, which killed him when opened. He told Rev. A M Bailey that revolver pressure drove the admission and Bailey plans an investigation of the detective department.
Secretary of State Thompson appoints Edward W. Hirsch to the last clerkship, replacing Dexter Agler. Hirsch leads the local Republican central committee and backed the party slate against Senators Dick and Foraker. Thompson says the organization was promised the post and he kept his word.
A. S. White representing the Columbia Co. proposed to Mayor Johnson that Cleveland receive natural gas from the same West Virginia field planned to supply Cincinnati. White asserts better service and lower prices. It is noted the Columbia Co. and East Ohio Gas Co. operate separately in Cleveland.
The Arkansas Corrugated Metal Culvert Co organized in Middletown under Arkansas law with $25,000 capital to manufacture a patent corrugated metal culvert. Plant to be in operation April 1. Officers: C. C. Fouts president, W. H. Johnson vice president, J. P. Lang secretary, E. L. Steuber treasurer, and directors Hugh Morris F. O. Putney R. R. Williamson.
In Portsmouth Ohio at Dixon Mills an elderly widow, Mrs. Rachael Pyles aged 80, and her son Jonathan aged 38, were burned to death in their log house heated by an old grate. Neighbors found the ruin and the charred remains. both were deaf and had limited means, living on a small isolated farm with a pension to the mother.
Cincinnati creditors of A L Rich the absent broker cannot secure life insurance policies issued on his life. Referee Greve rules the documents belong to Mrs Rich. The face value totals about 45000 dollars.
