Cleveland January 16 A bankers' committee report on Denison Prior & Co now in receivership shows gross liabilities near $900,000 with assets around $500,000 and about $1,000,000 in allegedly gilt edged securities. forged bonds include Canton water works and sewer issues, Alpena Michigan units, and South Sharon Pennsylvania items. Canton stops bond coupons as Prior’s private safe yielded no telling papers.

Dayton Ohio January 15 Mayor Snyder enforced the Sunday closing law and closed most saloons. Four establishments remained open Pony house a stag hotel Florida saloon on South Jefferson Terrace Brady on Sixth Dayton View one saloon. Police found crowds at Pony house. over fifty were arrested for loitering and released after bail. No drinks were served at hotel bars.
Augustus Eddy reported to Field's relatives that the attending physicians advised rest and retirement, indicating the first signs of improvement since Saturday night. The note came from the Holland House in New York City early Tuesday morning, just before o'clock.
Delbert Hayslip, held at Georgetown county jail for Adams county, escaped last night as the jail door could not be locked from inside. Bloodhounds followed his trail from the jail to a Ripley wharfboat before resources split, with others believing he fled east toward Camp Run woods three miles east. Columbus Ohio January 13. The taxation committee of the house will not order any investigation of insurance companies in Ohio this winter unless directed. The resolution to investigate was laid away. Chairman Earl Stewart confirmed the statement. The committee will limit itself to examining the insurance commissioner’s office to see if policyholders are protected and, if not, recommend stronger laws. The committee’s power stems from Gov Pattison’s recommendation to repeal the tax on policies and cap assessments on companies at about $50,000 for inspection and examination.
Columbus dated report says Senator Lamb, chair of railroads and telegraphs, declared for a straight two cent fare bill two cents a mile for all and will introduce it. In Columbus, the senate, by unanimous vote, adopted Senator Meek's resolution for direct election of United States senators by the people.

In Delaware on January 15, 23yearold farmer Burt Ketcham died in a fire at his home after an epileptic seizure caused him to topple a lantern in the barn. The blaze destroyed the barn and its contents.
