The Fifth Avenue Savings Bank of Columbus closed its doors on Saturday unable to meet obligations. It had overextended on real estate and expects depositors to lose nothing. The bank operated independently from the city’s other banks and cleared through the National Bank.
Columbus, Jan 14. Directors of the Fifth Avenue bank, closed after a run sparked by Friday’s Ady failure, allege extensive robbery by cashier John A. Knight. Knight is confined in the bank as directors seek him to disclose whereabouts of about $50,000 missing.
