In Philadelphia on January 9, a jury awarded F Marion Davis 20000 in a damages suit against Philadelphia Iron and Steel Company. Davis, injured in 1878 when an iron clamp detached from a fly wheel struck his head, suffered a crushed skull and permanent impairment.
