Julius Beck fast er and his wife gnatz Beck traveled Blue Island avenue in a buggy when the horse frightened reared and plunged. Beck was thrown out and injured as the horse ran toward the viaduct and crashed thirty feet below into a coal yard.
IsHPEMING January 8 ex-banker D F Wadsworth was convicted on a second trial of embezzling sixty thousand dollars. Sentence was deferred.
In Cuba Missouri on the St Francisco Road a large fire consumed two blocks of the business district. The Cuba Bank Parks hotel Newmenus and Jones general store G A Cairns billiard hall Blair Building and others suffered damage. Loss estimated around 50000 dollars.
All thirty six mules at the Preston mine were drowned yesterday as floodwaters rose faster than pumps could handle. Rescue of the animals was impossible due to the rapid water gain.

Washington January 7 the President has pardoned Severen Jensen and several other Mormons held under the Edmunds law in Utah though not convicted. The 1882 act empowered the President to pardon Mormons who wished to abandon polygamy aiming to promote compliance with the reform.
Ill reputed colored man Lt. Garro, prominent in the community, drowned in the Eddie River yesterday while attempting to close a lot. The incident occurred when the lot gave way and pulled him under. Emergency crews recovered the body after a brief search.
In Waynesboro Georgia on January 10 a jail break occurred at 4 o clock Wednesday morning. Prisoners fled downstairs through a hole burned by an iron bar and escaped into the swamp along the Savannah River. Deputy Sheriff Zorn pursued Garvin and his companions, Garvin wounded officers with birdshot, Tarver captured nearly frozen and bleeding. Painter Frank Lamb recounts a claimed nocturnal visitation with a floating figure who vanished. He and witnesses say the bed clothes moved and he fell to the floor. Coroner cites heart disease as the cause.
Four white men and a colored skiffman drowned when a skiff carrying six workers from the Arkansas side to Memphis capsized at Market Street. Patrick Bock of Dallas County Texas and Walter Brashey of Waco, Texas were rescued. The victims were Memphis and Little Rock Railroad section hands under foreman John Shea, near Buttermilk Section, forty-two miles from Little Rock. T B Gray was convicted in the First District Court of attempted abortion. Evidence showed he seduced his step daughter from age twelve and remained sexually intimate for four years. Prina DeLPuia reports a large fire in Kensington that wiped out Ainoutt's Mills and Beatty's Mills, occupying two blocks between Emmabeth Street Taylor Avenue and Coral streets, with Adams Street separating the sites. Estimated loss about 1000 dollars.
