At Winfield, Henry County, the dwelling of Thomas Innis burned down. His mother-in-law Mrs. Torbitt aged sixty and Innis’ eleven year old daughter were burned to death.
Grand Rapids. Feb. 26. Richard Freeman, eight year old son of W. L. Freeman, died after attempting to hold his breath at home. He burst a blood vessel and died a few minutes later.
Harrisburg report notes the first flag bearing four extra stars was raised atop the Capitol dome yesterday marking expansion of the union. The event occurred in the state capital as officials and onlookers witnessed the historic display.

San Diego reports Mrs. Snider daughter of ex governor Ogelsby of Illinois was robbed of 12009 dollars in diamonds and jewelry at Delmar yesterday. The jewels were handed to a clerk for safekeeping and both he and the diamonds have disappeared, police said.
In Morning side school Miss Hattie Conniff and twenty pupils suffered severe illness from smoke after a fur cap fell into hot ashes. The teacher fainted, a boy collapsed, and many students became deathly sick before fresh air and milk aided recovery within hours. Authorities suspect coloring from the cap released poison when burned.

Norwalk Ohio February 22. Miss Minnie Meyer received chloroform for a tooth extraction at noon. After a few inhalations the heart stopped. Death is believed caused by underlying heart disease.
In Norfolk Virginia on February 22 a young mulatto man named Thomas Gray was attacked on the street by his former sweetheart Nellie White with a razor. Gray died from injuries sustained. The assailant has been taken into custody. Gray had abandoned her for another woman.
Circleville Ohio reports a quiet business rumor that County Treasurer Jas M Lane fled the city and is a defaulter of 26000 dollars. Bondsmen gathered at the Court House, lending credence to the tale as investigators search for the missing official.
Indianapolis February 23 A warrant is out for Colonel W W Dudley of the Republican National Committee. U S Commissioner Van Buren issued the warrant based on an affidavit charging him as the author of the noted blocks o five letter.

Dr. D. W. Bliss who cared for President Garfield during his illness died at 7:15 yesterday morning at his Washington residence. The funeral is planned for Sunday and interment will follow in the capital.
