The rear cars telescoped, injuring numerous passengers including Nelson Sayler attorney and George Schneider assistant cashier at the Post Office. several are seriously or dangerously hurt with others lightly injured.

Washington reports a fatal B and P R R collision four miles south near a canal viaduct. The freight and passenger engines collided on a curve, killing the freight engineer George Freer and the passenger engineer and fireman, conductor Andrew Augur, and others. Several passengers injured. mail agent unnamed. Bruce, passenger engine engineer, also died.
From Denbaw's Point Lubec details a dire cruelty tale. Annie Huckin aged about twenty four, kept nearly naked by her stepmother and stepbrother, was beaten, left outside in subzero weather, foot frostbite and possible amputation. McFadden, her stepbrother, faces trial and Annie remains critically ill in hospital. The stepmother’s theft of belongings was revealed at the poorhouse trial. Annie is under care at Machias Jail awaiting April Court proceedings.
Severe weekend weather at the monument dedication caused illness among attendees with General Hyace Capron and Francis M. Drake among the dead. Capron, born August 4 1804 in Attleboro Mass, died after a brief illness following the ceremonies. Drake, a Boston Light Guard member and stationer, collapsed and died the next day after attending the event.
Two charges against Frank James in Cooper County Circuit Court were dismissed on a quiet Saturday. Governor Marmaduke’s refusal to grant a requisition from Minnesota looms as a likely factor in James’s status. Captain F P Bronaugh, bondsman, traveled to Jefferson City to learn the governor’s stance but declined comment.
Washington February 23 The House Committee on Public Buildings favors reports on appropriations for buildings. Proposals include 100000 for Lexington Kentucky 60000 for Monroe Louisiana 50000 for Opeldivisas Louisiana 25000 for Terre Haute Indiana 100000 for Oshkosh Wisconsin 125000 for Minneapolis Minnesota and 50000 additional to Texarkana Texas 6000 for Stee City New Neves and other items. These items are separate from the sundry civil bill.
From Cabul London reports say government circles fear a rising influx of Russians presented as travelers. Locals believe these visitors may be military and tied to rumors that Russia aims to annex Afghanistan.
Sunbury February 23 Two counterfeiters James F Adams and John Drumbhiller of Catawassa were arrested here by Detective Mc Sweeney of Pittsburg. They belong to a Shamokin based gang circulating counterfeit money across the region. Bot of Shamokin was also arrested.

A two horse sleigh accident near Muncy Valley claims Joseph Habercker aged forty his wife thirty eight and three children Mary Henry and Millie aged fifteen twelve and eight. The sleigh overturned as horses ran away dragging the occupants five hundred feet. The father died from a broken neck and a child lost both legs and died. others are severely injured.
London reports renewed tremors in Granada causing ravines at Alhama and part of the famed bathing establishment to collapse. Several towns damaged by the quake are being rebuilt, funded by municipal authorities of Barcelona Bilbao and Kinares.
A New York Express passenger train on the Bee Line slowed near Lockland station when a broken rail caused the rear sleepers to derail and plunge down an embankment. Two passengers were fatally injured and several others were hurt.
ToLt Gate February 22. A collision between freight trains on the B and O road near ToLt Gate resulted in the death of the engineer, fireman, and brakeman of one train, while the engineer and fireman of the other train were seriously injured.

He notes nearly all regular soldiers perished with women and children spared. London reports Wolseley will tell Parliament he sent a Mahdist relative from Dongola to negotiate on Sultanate terms in Kordofan.
