A freight train on the Alabama & Vicksburg line split when an overloaded car broke in half. Fifteen cars and the caboose piled up, crushing section workers including two fatally. Fireman Ross W. Rogers suffered a fractured skull and may die. conductor William B. Ramsey, brakeman Lester Boyd, and others were injured.

Representative Taylor of Jefferson proposes a radical reform to insurance laws. Within days he will introduce a bill to make all policies uniform and will include a standard form he prepared for adoption by all companies in the state.
