It promises instant relief for bruises, chest pains, toothache, cramps, stomach issues, and more, with internal use claimed. The copy promotes 50 cents price, drugstore availability, and a seed catalog pitch from Philadelphia.
A breezy digest of varied items from 1880s era newspapers. It cites budgets and costs in Boston, Indian reservations in New York, Illinois legislators born abroad, and a range of oddities from silk culture in Wisconsin to a one-ton Fresno apple tree. It covers murders, libel suits, mining, gas syndicates, and curious personalities, with local color and numerical detail throughout.
A Hartford hotel disaster near High and Allyn streets left at least twenty five dead with ten more unaccounted and eighteen injured. The Park Central Hotel wreckage trapped patrons as flames spread, boiler explosion suspected though unconfirmed. Rescue crews battled the blaze as witnesses described scenes of horror and loss.

Hattie B Stevenson, a Wellsville post office clerk, faced embezzlement charges in Cleveland after money disappeared from Wellsville letters. She confessed to stealing between four and five thousand dollars using decoys, shocking her prominent Wellsville father and the local community.
The Monroe County White-Cap jury, idle since Friday, reported yesterday for the third time that they could not reach a verdict and were discharged. Eight jurors favored acquittal while four wanted conviction. A new trial is set for April.

A severe pre-dawn cyclone struck the southeastern Banks County region in a valley between two hill ranges near Athens Georgia. Four people died and about six were seriously injured in the disaster. Rescue and relief efforts were underway as investigators assessed the damage. The storm's path damaged homes and disrupted travel across the valley.
Mrs. Taylor of El Paso Texas fell thirty feet down an elevator shaft at the Clarendon Hotel in Memphis. She escaped with only a slight wrist strain after landing on her bustle, a safety cushion of sorts.
Washington February 19 The Senate Committee on Territories voted to report favorably the Springer bill to organize the Territory of Oklahoma with Chairman Platt and Mr Butler dissenting.
Parnt made with turpentine protects iron work better than linseed oil. A flexible cement melts without damage when gutta percha and white pine pitch are mixed equally. Oyster shell lime is used only for scratch coats due to salt content. Wood-burned lime is best. Wood-workers use naphthalene as a wood preservative for a dry aroma. Rep lead on iron forms an anti fouling base guarding against galvanic action.
One of America's tallest office buildings under construction in Curiaco, at Dearborn and Adams, collapsed after the tenth floor tile failed. About 125 workers were on site Sunday. fewer than a dozen were inside the basement when the structure gave way, sending a cloud of dust and debris through the center business district. The ruin left the lower floors a heap while four upper levels and the roof remained standing in a shaky witness to its halted ascent.
From St. Louis dated February 18, reports indicate Belle Starr's diary has been obtained from her ranch. The journal lists adventures and disclosures alleging innocent men were convicted of crimes in Texas and the Indian Territory, and connects prominent figures to recent offenses.
In Ashland Mississippi on Friday night a blaze destroyed the home of Thomas Willons four miles east of town. The fire killed four of his children two daughters aged among the oldest were upstairs asleep and could not be saved while another younger child perished downstairs. Willons himself sustained serious burns as the house burned to the ground.
A 30 foot cave in over an abandoned Mulberry street mine in Scranton broke gas and water pipes, caused gas ignition and several explosions, knocked people down, endangered nearby property, and left residents without water.

Bern reports the Government favors settling the Samoan question on the Washington conference proposal. A tripartite control by the United States Germany and Great Britain would be exercised through consuls at Apia to govern the Samoan administration.
Nashville Tenn Feb 18 The Supreme Court decided the Third Congressional Bates-Evans contested election call in favor of H Clay Evans Republican and the Governor forwarded his certificate of election to Washington The decision sustains the former action of the Governor.
The Landis Transfer Company's stables in Kansas City, Missouri burned late last night. James Hoffman, one of the owners, perished in the fire. Ninety four horses were lost. Estimated loss stands at fifty thousand dollars with partial insurance.
A Wheeling correspondent telegraphs that reports of a murder by an ex preacher and a fatal boiler explosion, both dated from Parkersburg, are sensational fabrications by a reckless correspondent.

Balimore Md Feb 15 a barn owned by D Henry Rieman in Adams County Pa near Emmittsburg Md was destroyed by an incendiary fire. Loss 7009 insured 4600 by Agricultural Insurance Company. The blaze is linked to a string of recent border area barn burnings ascribed to unknown assailants using phosphorus devices to ignite and spread destruction.
In Paris on February 15 the Chambre des Deputes debated constitutional revision. Count De Douyelle Maillefeu moved to adjourn the discussion, a move supported by 37 votes to 218 against the Government. All ministers resigned to President Car.
In Fort Dodge Iowa February 15 1900 a countywide drive for prohibition began with raids on saloons in Badger Duncumb Lehigh and Barnum. Liquor was spilled and citizens vow further action to make the city dry.
Terre Haute Feb. 15. The discovery that former Vermillion County Treasurer W. L. Porter is a twelve thousand dollar defaulter has caused a county wide sensation. The books were examined twice and the shortage confirmed.
Link D. Waggoner, sought since April for shooting with intent to kill, was killed near Mixpon Louisiana while resisting arrest by Claiborne Parish sheriff. The confrontation occurred February 15 as officers attempted to apprehend the fugitive.
