Stockton Cal Feb 12 Col Ferris Forman died Monday at 94. He commanded an Illinois regiment in the Mexican War and was its last surviving officer. Forman served as district attorney appointed by President Buchanan, was Sacramento first postmaster, and later secretary of state under an early California governor.
In Crested Butte Colorado on February 12 a jailed suspect named George Buri who faced a charge of criminally assaulting 12 year old Kate Munich hanged himself from a window bar with an electric wire as a mob outside the jail threatened lynching. He proclaimed his innocence.
