Three Hundred Drowned on Kapunda Collision
The British ship Kapunda, carrying emigrants from London to Fremantle, collided near Brazil with an unknown vessel and sank with 300 drowned. The Ada Melmore also sank. 304 people in total perished. Survivors reached Bahia. Kapunda was 1084 tons under Captain Masson.

Kentucky lynching: Cornish hanged after jail escape
