In Dorset Ohio Charles Ledig mill worker aged, died after a pillow play with his eight children in bed. He became exhausted while rising to build a fire and collapsed. Doctors cite heart weakness from the excitement. Widow and eight children survive.
Hamilton Ohio January 31 Geo P Sohngen banker and capitalist announces a deal to consolidate all Toledo breweries into a $5,000,000 corporation. Parties include Charles S Heiser Judge Clarence Murphy and Edward Sohngen of Hamilton. Plants Buckeye Huebner Graesser Brand Home Findlay. Title examinations to continue over ensuing weeks.
Columbus Ohio January 31 Governor Herrick reprieved Herbert O Barber for thirty days after a three and a half year sentence for embezzling Cambridge bank funds. The delay lets Barber remain free while seeking circuit court relief and he must post twenty five thousand dollars.
In Toledo Ohio on January 31 a husband shot at his wife after she teased him about attending a masquerade ball. He missed his mark and was wounded in the shoulder, while the wife sang a line about teasing before the incident.
The Supreme Court denied the writ of certiorari in the post office irregularities case, leaving in force the DC Circuit Court of Appeals verdict finding Machen Lorenz and the Groffs guilty of conspiracy to defraud the government. They were sentenced to two years in prison and fined $10,000 each.

Sandusky January 31 Charles Alschaugh, age 12, who was confined to the county infirmary for months after biting off several fingers, died in convulsions. Physicians say death was likely hastened by denial of raw flesh to the boy.
Washington January 31 The house committee on interstate and foreign commerce voted along party lines to favorably report a bill expanding inter state commerce commission authority to six rates increasing the commission size from five to seven members and creating a court of transportation The measure combines Esch Townsend proposals with Hepburn amendments to strengthen transport regulation.
James Ellis, 35, fell from the top of a four story building on West Front street when the floor collapsed. He sustained fractured ribs and internal injuries after landing amid debris. In a separate note, Cincinnati plans a training program to educate telephone girls for operator roles at the local company.
Columbus Ohio January 31 Adjt Gen Critchfield says no joint maneuvers with the Ohio National Guard and the regular army will be held this summer. He just returned from a ten days stay in Washington.
Bay City Michigan January 31 The unique spectacle of a southern democratic congressman attending the banquet of a northern republican club occurred as 400 guests of the McKinley club of Bay county sat down to the annual event. Congressman Legare of South Carolina eloquently responded to the toast One flag one country.
A terrific explosion followed the heating of a stick of dynamite in Toledo on January 31, instantly killing George Bogaj and seriously injuring Martin Gradrick, Daniel Lynch, Stephen Blanskiski, John Lebrocski, and M. M. Rybacski.
Berlin reports Sultan Abdul Hamid is dangerously ill with heart muscle inflammation. If he dies, the Kleines Journal says the court would place his younger brother Rashid Bey on the throne, indicating a successor plan.
Mamie Ray Burn, 21, a singer at Buckeye concert hall, rushed the stage with clothing on fire. Flames were extinguished after she was seriously burned. She reportedly went too close to a stove.
Washington reports that 400063 immigrants were admitted to the United States in the six months ending December 31. This compares with 323641 for the same period in 1902 and 403966 for the corresponding period in 1903.
Hamilton January 31 The Home Telephone Co of this city has offered to purchase the Bell Telephone Co s interest in Hamilton and negotiations are under way for a consolidation of the two firms setting the stage for a merged local telephone system.
Topeka on January 31 senator Norftzger introduced a resolution directing the attorney general to proceed against all so called trusts and combinations doing business in Kansas.
Addressed the Graduates. Annapolis Md Jan 31 President Roosevelt addressed midshipmen graduates of the first class at the naval academy. The exercises closed with a farewell ball given by the second class to their departing seniors.
In Coshocton Ohio on January 31 a group of 500 miners from the Wade and Morgan Run Coal Company voted to strike after an arbitration board failed to resolve their grievances over hopper scales. They had been out seven months in the previous year.
