Demon, a Catlettsburg Ky man employed as assistant bookkeeper for Cole Cran Co Cincinnati timbering outfit, drew a pistol and killed three Negroes as others fled. He escaped by a rear door and has not been captured. The incident follows continued outlawry in the area and fear of further trouble before holidays.
Three men were shot in a near Lawton Oklahoma dispute on December 21. The shooting is said to have been carried out by a man named Roberts, and all the wounded are reported dead. Roberts is fortified in a house, defying arrest as the sheriff and two marshals proceed to the scene.
Chattanooga Tenn December 21 N Fi kreig former Terre Haute Three I league captain and manager has been selected as captain and manager of the Chattanooga team in the Southern league for the coming season.
Birmingham planters and city residents witnessed the execution of Will Redding and Jim Winton alias Wintons in the jail yard. Winton killed his wife and Redding murdered his sweetheart Annie Green as authorities carried out the sentences.
Worcester Mass December 21 James A Ten Eyck is engaged to coach the naval academy crew at Annapolis next year He will begin duties shortly after the Christmas holidays.
Austin December 21. Cone sist Simcock and the officers fell at the same moment and both were killed.
Washington December 21 orders issued for transfer of a battery of artillery from Havana Cuba to Fort Sill Oklahoma. Troops will be selected by General Wood and embark from Havana around January 2.
Washington December 23 Secretary Lorig has approved the majority report of the Schley court of inquiry and the government will drop the case. The court was dissolved under Roosevelt instructions. Secretary Long called for the resignation of Edgar Stanton Maclay as New York navy yard special laborer, author of a Santiago campaign history criticizing Schley. War Secretary Root reprimanded Lieut Gen Miles for criticizing the Schley case in a Cincinnati interview. In reply Miles said Dewey’s conclusions should be endorsed by patriotic Americans. Antonio Texas December 23. Fire in Zacatecas market house causes at least 45 deaths and many injuries as building collapses bury workers. large meat stocks kept in cellars. city markets valued at about 150000 dollars were destroyed.
Judge Advocate Lemly and Solicitor Hanna urge approval of the first Schley court of inquiry report. They argue the unanimous verdict justified rejecting Schley’s evidence given witness opposition and see no need to reopen the case. Meanwhile Indiana remains in Indian waters with no orders to proceed to Venezuela issued by Secretary Long.
Gen R A Alger former secretary of war underwent an operation Sunday for removal of gall stones. Surgeons reported he recovered almost entirely from the shock with temperature near normal and strong pulse. The operation revealed an infected gall bladder with many adhesions. the gall bladder was opened and drained and his condition was serious but he withstood the procedure.
Washington December 23 The condition of Rear Admiral Sampson is better than it has been for several days and the cold weather moderates he hopes to resume outdoor exercises Captain Francis A Cook formerly commanding officer of the Brooklyn at Santiago is better Sunday but will likely take some time to recover from a severe attack of stomach and heart trouble that caused his illness
Memphis dispatch reports a fatal altercation at a Hurricane Mississippi church prayer meeting when James Smith struck his father George with a pine scantling. The blows caused instant death, ending the dispute within moments.
Three additional workers died Sunday after Saturday's explosion at the Singer Nimick plant of the Crucible Steel Co of America, raising total fatalities to four.

She pursued him with an ax in a yard, killing him instantly. coroner's jury cleared her. Also on December 23 Washington reported Argentina's Merou said Buenos Aires would suspend negotiations with Chile and seek arbitration by the King of England.
London dispatch reports Queen Alexandria is briefly indisposed causing the postponement of King Edward and Queen Alexandria travel to Sandringham. Officials say the condition is not serious and expects her to recover quickly.
