CHATTANOOGA Tenn Dec 14 At 4 o clock Saturday morning the power house for the Inclined Plane company on Lookout mountain burned. A car at the top caught fire and released from the cables shot down the track at high speed, jumped the trestle a quarter mile down, and was smashed in the gorge. No one was aboard. The fire origin is unknown.
Sterling W. Turner, a theological student and president of the University Y.M.C.A., was found dead in his Vanderbilt University room Sunday afternoon. Reports say he cut his throat from ear to ear in a suicide.
Dr. S. S. Johnson a well-known Lexington dentist was declared insane and committed to the asylum. He previously suffered a mental breakdown at an Ohio summer resort and spent several weeks in Cincinnati hospital during August.
Bowser Ida Dec 14 The supreme court held that the equal suffrage amendment voted on at the recent election was adopted and hence women will vote in this state thereafter.
Night the first North Texas was made. Volunteers for the relief of Cuban insurgents are being mobilized in St. Louis and New Orleans. Next Friday 1,000 men will leave for Cuba, including 200 St. Louisans and others from East St. Louis and towns south of there along Illinois Central and Iron Mountain railroads.
Col Thomas Pattison aged 81, born in Ireland, died at his daughter Mrs Loring in Chicago. He served as colonel of the eighteenth Indiana volunteers, surveyed the Ohio and Mississippi Road, rode the first engine on the line, and later was U S internal revenue collector at Aurora Indiana. Remains to be sent to Cincinnati for interment.
