Milwaukee Aug 16 Two infants George and Sophia Gauer aged two months died after their mother gave them a poppy seed infusion prepared with water. Neighbors advised the remedy, which initially acted as an opiate before causing convulsions. Both fatalities were certified by Dr. Lewis and the coroner. The grieving parents were overwhelmed by the tragedy.
The Treasury reports a steady surplus growth in bond offerings, reaching 70,800,000 dollars the highest since October. Pension payments for the current month are estimated at 18,000,000 dollars and will reduce the surplus. Additional cuts are anticipated in the fall amid the usual crop movement.

London reports a four hour conference involving Home Secretary Matthews Mr Justice Stephen the Lord Chancellor and medical experts. They expect a pardon or commutation in the Maybrick case with pressed belief that Mrs Maybrick may be pardoned or commuted to life penal servitude. The meeting focused on testimony including arsenic related evidence and weighed against guilt. The Lord Chancellor is rarely consulted except when a reprieve is possible.
Justice Stephen J. Field of the U.S. Supreme Court was arrested on the charge of being party to the killing of David S. Terry at Lathrop last Wednesday. A writ of habeas corpus was granted by Judge Sawyer, releasing Field on $5,000 bail. the Stockton warrant was issued on complaint by Mrs. Sarah Althea Terry.
Pittsuburcu reports a south bound passenger train on the Butler branch of the Western Pennsylvania railroad left Butler yesterday afternoon, jumped the track at Severs Station, and went over an embankment. The wreck destroyed two passenger coaches and a smoking baggage car. Three killed outright and twenty five injured, with several of the injured likely to die.

Pulse often forty to fifty, irregular. Marvel is eighty five and the case is described as the strangest on record.
A switchman on the Northern Central railroad at Lafayette Street Station Premier saved many lives when a shifter engine boarded the main track as the Philadelphia express approached. The runaway collided with a locomotive and two cars, punching through a Chicago meat house wall. Total damage estimated at $30,090.
An aeronaut Professor James Robinson from Menruts gave an exhibition on August 18. The balloon leaped to a great height, then blew away, sending the parachute overboard and the aeronaut into the river. He clung to a rope as the balloon sank and was saved by a skiff. The balloon was towed ashore as witnesses watched.
Rev. Russell B. Robinson a retired minister over 70, wealthy, collapsed and died on an Indianapolis sidewalk after attending a Murphy meeting. He served in Indiana and Ohio conferences and was well regarded in church circles. His son Russell B. Robinson Jr. is a journalist.
Charrette North Carolina August 19 The aeronaut W K Perry who fell seven hundred feet at Mount Holly fair near Charlotte ten days ago died tonight from internal injuries He leaves a wife and two children who came here from Birmingham Alabama a few days ago.
On August 19 in Purvis Mississippi Judge Terrell sentenced John L. Sullivan to one year in jail for prize fighting. The verdict was appealed to the Supreme Court, Sullivan was released on bail and headed north. Referee Fitzpatrick was fined $200.
Commander-in-Chief Warner of the G. A. R. submits the yearly report from Kansas City. The document records a total membership of 413,228, marking an increase of 59,012 members for the year and will be presented at the Milwaukee Encampment.
Placerville reports that John Olson and William Drager, convicted alongside John H. Myers, were sentenced to hang on October 16 for the murder of ranchman John Lowell. Myers had already been executed on November 20 last year.

During a powerful thunderstorm in Superior on August 20 a lightning bolt demolished a camping party tent at Wisconsin Point. A large group of women in a nearby tent were rendered helpless for about an hour. The storm also hit a lumber camp, startling workers. a pipe was knocked from a man’s mouth and a rifle fired unintentionally.
CuicaGco Aug 20 Miss F Spellman of this city drowned at St Joseph Michigan while trying to rescue Mrs Edward Napier and her child from a rapid river current. She died after a valiant effort to reach them. Mrs Napier and her boy were saved by rescuers arriving in time.
London reporting Sir James Fergusion Parliamentary Secretary of the Foreign Office told Mr Labouchere that the Berlin National Zeitung claim about Britain sharing policy with the Triple Alliance is mere conjecture. England has made no commitment limiting its freedom of action.
