In Montpellier Ohio on August 13 Miss Maud Young and Miss Jennie Myers were handling a pistol. The weapon discharged. Miss Myers was shot and unconscious with life not expected to be saved. Miss Young then shot herself, the bullet entering the forehead and lodging in the brain, dying within an hour.

Strychnine was thrown into a spring near Edwin Shadde’s home near Bantam Batavia Ohio. The poisoning attempt was discovered in time. This marks the second such incident in ten months at the same spring.
John Friend of near Coalton tried to pass a $20 bill raised on Richard Cavett a merchant in Jackson. The fraud was detected and Friend was arrested in Jackson Ohio on August 14.
