Three pounds veal breast end cut into two inch pieces simmered with carrot onions parsley celery seed bay leaf and water until tender then strained. Make butter and flour roux add broth, temper with egg yolks and cream, heat not boiling, finish with lemon juice and pour over hot veal. Serve immediately.
A vintage recipe describes making cocoa macaroons by sieving flour, sugar, cocoa, baking powder, salt, cinnamon and spices, then adding citrus rind, egg, vanilla, and forming dough balls. Roll in sugar, bake quickly to yield 18 cookies, with buttered pans and sugared tops.

A 19th century remedy instructs to boil water with brown sugar and honey, skim the scum, steep walnut leaves in the hot liquor, then add two yeast cakes and let it work a week. After stirring several times daily, transfer to a cask and age six months. It is claimed to cure inward complaints.
In Zanesville Ohio 15 year old William Sweed, a colored youth, confessed to killing his father Charles Sweed 40. The family of four lived at Ellis Station. William’s action followed an intoxicated bout by his father who punished the younger son. the mother intervened and was choked. Wil Mam, the older son, then seized the shotgun and fatally shot the father at close range before the youth walked to the depot and surrendered.
Wade B. Pool warned his son in law Clyde Longfellow to stop abusing his daughter in a Kenton barber shop. Longfellow shot Pool five times with a forty four caliber revolver, killing him, then surrendered to the sheriff. Pool, a carriage painter, had been visiting from Lima to see his daughter and related alleged abuse.
In Mason Ohio Joseph Thompson was wounded twice by Charles Wilson after a dispute over a $6 debt from a horse deal. Thompson says Wilson opened fire from a 22 caliber revolver in Drake's stable, striking his elbow and chest area. Wilson was arrested claiming Thompson carried a gun for him.
Bellefontaine Ohio, Bellefield Davis who lived for years in this county died while visiting relatives in St Laborn Indiana. He was a man of large means and kept affairs to himself. He did not trust banks and relatives do not know where he kept his money. He owned real estate in Indiana Illinois and Iowa. Once in Bellefontaine he brought to a bank over 1300 dollars in money chewed by mice, which was sent to Washington and replaced with new money.
Athens Dr. Ellis, president of Ohio University, presented a copy of recently filed charges by former Representative A. E. Price to the board of trustees. The trustees unanimously adopted a resolution to send the documents to the governor and secretary of state and urged a thorough investigation into the charges.
The decomposed Italian man was found near Furnace Run by Fred Mulcheron. The skull was crushed, pockets empty, and a torn paper fragment suggests identity. Investigators connect the scene to Black Hand activity, and deny immediate identification.

The will of Phineas M Spencer a widely known Cleveland banker who died last Tuesday was probated disposing of an estate near 1 million dollars Bequests include 22000 to Mary Costello his housekeeper 10000 to another household staff member 10000 each to Mrs James Wood and Mrs Harry Wood of Buffalo N Y 4000 to Miss Alice Camp and 2000 to Miss Francis stenographer.
On a Dayton farm James Cook found a fresh three foot diameter hole thirteen feet deep. Investigations suggest a large meteor struck the ground during the night, burying itself with a clean, straight descent and remaining buried but visible.

In Conneaut Ohio two men A Matson and B Quick died after scaffolding they worked on collapsed at the Pittsburg and Conneaut dock. Seven men were on the scaffold. five others were seriously injured, some catching themselves on ropes to break their fall.
In a southbound Maumee Valley interurban and a Toledo Bowling Green and Southern car collision near the terminal belt crossing three miles south of Toledo, Wm. Kazmeier, 50, of Perrysburg, was perhaps fatally injured and six others were injured to varying degrees.

Dr Willoughby Miller a renowned American dentist and former dentist to the German royal family died in Newark after surgery for an abdominal abscess. He was visiting his old home at the time.

In a head on collision of two traction cars on the Cleveland and Southwestern line three persons were probably fatally injured and about twenty others sustained injuries of minor nature. The seriously hurt were Mrs. Joseph Crane Mrs. K J Washburn and F J Gibson all residents of Oberlin and taken to Elyria hospital.
Raymond Horner struck a Bellaire Bridge pier on the Ohio River sending two coal laden barges to the river. The damaged towboat and barges incurred losses totaling $12,000.

Steubenville report says farmer John Haines of near Annapolis was struck by a freight train at Bergholz. His wagon stalled on the track and he attempted to jump free but was ground to pieces under the wheels.
A tornado swept Urbana destroying the United States Paper and Box Co plant. Losses reach about 50000 dollars as workers were off duty. The Clifford theater also sustained about 5000 dollars in damage in the same storm.
