Gen Wade Hampton of South Carolina dies at 9 am in Columbia after valvular heart disease. He died on his 84th birthday, after winter illnesses. Thousands attend his burial at Trinity Church yard, with a mile-long procession and wide public tributes including veterans, militia, and schools.
Dr. R C Cotter a prominent specialist was found dead at his mother in law's Barnesville home from a bullet wound under the right ear. Officials say the death appears accidental as he was cleaning a pistol. Cotter had retired from practice due to ill health and once led the Barnesville Savings Bank as president.

Manila April 14 Ww T Waller of the marine corps was acquitted after a court martial on charges of killing natives of Samar without trial. The verdict stood 11 to 2 in favor of acquittal.

William J. Byers, a young man from East Pittsburg, was arrested for the killing of August Layton near Turtle Creek last June. After lengthy questioning he confessed, saying he killed Layton with Mrs. Layton's urging as they planned the murder on June 14 while in love with her.

In Chicago on Monday night Emil Colton butcher and Jules Kuntz chef fought with 18 inch butcher knives in the Union League club kitchen. Colton nearly lost a hand and Kuntz was wounded with eight arteries severed and skull fracture. Both collapsed unconscious and were removed. motive traced to Colton's discharge and Kuntz's alleged role.
