Huntindon West Virginia April 8. A riot at Harter's Creek Lincoln County yesterday afternoon left eight men wounded by clubs and stones. None were armed, preventing further loss of life amid the clash.
BirMIn Guam April 8 Police Officer John Manning captain of the Bessemer Police Force was shot through the heart with a Winchester rifle by a colored desperado known as Sandy Carter alias Sandy Jones. The murderer escaped.
A Parisian firm Allard & Sons operating from 804 Fifth Avenue allegedly smuggled antique furniture and tapestries into New York over at least seven years. Agents Blossaire and Roulez allegedly hid duties by placing smuggled items in fine goods bought by Vanderbilt Twombley Wilson and other prominent buyers. Purchasers paid inflated prices with hidden duties, though they likely suspected nothing.
