A large number of M E church members attended the Ansonia meeting with strong attendance and lively discussion on church uplift. Figures from the Bureau of Foreign and Domestic Commerce, released via the Methodist Board, show the fiscal year ended June 30, 1916, recorded per capita consumption of distilled spirits, wines, and malt liquors at 19.40 gallons, the lowest since 1902, with a noted rise restrained by Prohibition efforts.
The passage traces per capita liquor consumption increases from 1850 to 1907, notes a 14.8 percent decline after 1907 as Maine North Dakota and Kansas enforce Prohibition, and estimates that without the dry movement per capita consumption would have risen to 29.17 gallons in 1916. It also mentions government tax and withdrawal procedures for whiskey eight years after bonding.
