Venice Area Art League begins its Every Member Canvass led by Herbert C. Elam of Nokomis with a goal of 100 percent participation to fund a new art center. Elam, a 1962 retirement former General Foods district sales manager, chairs the drive and cites local support from the Venice area. He is active with Venice United Church of Christ which completed its own building fund drive in 1964.

Ringling Circus Sale Reported to New Delaware Owner
The Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Combined Shows Inc. was sold to the Hofield Corporation of Delaware for about $8 million. The deal, approved by Circuit Judge Silvertooth in Bradenton, is to close soon in Rome Italy. The circus will keep winter quarters in Venice and may not move headquarters from Venice despite the sale.

Sarasota County Hospital Board took a six month option on 30 acres from Warm Mineral Springs Inc at 800 per acre for a future hospital site.
