Aid sought for Guatemala earthquake victims in Venice
The Rev. Harry Bryant of Venice describes the February quake that killed about 17 000 people in Guatemala and damaged Comalapa. Local efforts mobilize through Goodwill Industries and World Vision to collect tents, clothes, blankets, food, and typhoid vaccines, with donations directed to Guatemala via California and Macdill Air Force Base. CARE and other agencies also provide emergency aid.

Red oblong UFO sighting over Venice coast surprises couple
Don and Elinor Hudson McArthur reported a slender red pencil shaped object that grew oblong and bright red before disappearing over the gulf at dawn. The Venice Sands couple described stationary behavior, added past sightings, and vowed to carry a camera henceforth.

Venice gynecologist Dr. Douglas R. Murphy told Rotary Club members that malpractice fears threaten patient trust and increase costs. He recalled a past emergency where a sponge left in a patient could have spawned suits, argued for frank doctor patient talks and criticized rising malpractice insurance. He noted California costs soaring to as high as forty thousand dollars and cited a public poll on doctors’ image and take home pay.
