A Brunswick man drove 1000 feet onto AC and W railroad tracks delaying three trains for about three hours. Deputies cited him for public intoxication and praised the conductor for spotting the car on the tracks. He thought he was at an airport. First responders checked the vehicle with no road access beside the line.
Medina County sheriff reports a life size papier mache Cigar Store Indian valued at 1500 dollars stolen from Mrs. Laverne Martin of 328 Weymouth Road. The piece stood outside for over a century. one of two exists with the Cleveland Historical Society owning the other. Call 725 4252 with tips. Medina High School freshman Kevin Shaw and friend Steve Kuehn built a towering upside down bike in Medina. The blue yellow silver machine stands five feet seven inches at the seat with a three foot two inch reach to the front wheel and a one inch short leg reach. Kevin learned to mount yesterday and used Medina High metal shop for welding. The bike drew cheers and a Peeping Tom Bike label from a teacher. Kevin plans another taller invention.
Four northeast Ohio schools including Medina St Francis Xavier School are chosen to pilot the Our Working World social studies series by Science Research Associates. The program runs through grade six and aims to build economic understanding with games on money and real estate. It provides pamphlets for student discussion in small groups. Fifth grade titles include How People Lived in the Early Republic and Mayor LaGuardia Fights The Machine.
In Hinckley and Brunswick Hills the battle over an eight million dollar sewer treatment plant took a military turn as Lt. James Speakman outlined land and other treatment options. He said costs are similar and recommended agencies weigh factors, with Muskegon and Melbourne cited as precedents for land treatment.
