Fifteen at Black River get scholarships
Black River High School honored fifteen seniors at an assembly naming valedictorian Steven Coch and salutatorian Susan Cassese. Coch earned multiple scholarships including Firestone and Ohio Academic, while Cassese will study business at Ohio State and claimed several awards. Other scholars included Mark Hoffman, Doris Elliott, Sue Heath, Mark Yourich, Lisa Tyler, Jackie Fugitt, Eric Grim, Carol Walkden, and Donald Wilson who received various scholarships and awards.

Area woman escapes injury in car heater malfunction fire
Two Memorial Day weekend vehicle fires traced to heater malfunctions. Donald Joy, 20, of Parma escaped injury when his 1975 T Bird burned at Crazy River Ranch in Lodi, with $5,300 damage and $120 wallet lost. Wendy Clark, 26, of Elyria, saw a 1972 Capri burn for $2,000 on Avon Lake Road in Litchfield Two, both fires handled by local fire departments. Separately, 25-year-old Gordon Thomas was charged with rape of a 17-year-old Spencer boy with $10,000 bond, and a rape investigation involving a 14-year-old Brunswick girl is ongoing in Strongsville.
