Banks divided over branch banking bill in Medina County
Local bankers react mixed to a proposed branch banking bill on Gov. Rhodes desk. Large banks back the bill citing improved services while some smaller lenders fear reduced competition.

Pie trial leaves Rhodes holding banana
The Ohio pie throwing case against Steven Conliff ended with a verdict of assault not proven and contempt, while Jim Rhodes faced embarrassment in a high profile pre primary trial. Rhodes testified pie tossing dazed him and burned his eye, while expert testimony measured impact. Conliff was acquitted of assault but convicted of disorderly conduct and contempt. The episode drew gag orders and a crowded court with Yippie protests and political scrutiny.
