Hinckley road meeting outlines options for funding fixes

About 60 Hinckley residents attended an open meeting at the town hall sponsored by the Hinckley Voters League to learn who is responsible for road construction and maintenance. Township Trustee Chairman Joe Schwager explained budget constraints including a $35,000 road and bridges item and a 10 percent tax rollback reducing road funds by about $2,000. He described three funding avenues: a road levy, a 51 percent property owner petition for hard surface work with costs assessed to beneficiaries, or trustee votes with costs charged to benefiting property owners. Medina County engineer John Foreman noted Hinckley has 14 1 3 miles of county roads, 20% miles of township roads, and 18% miles of state or U S highways, with county engineers governing county roads.
