Family pushes to widen penalties after teen drownings
Trevor Pacek, 19, died when a small boat capsized on a Medina Township pond while three youths were intoxicated. His parents allege police relied on a survivor's account and pressed for Ohio House Bill 674 to elevate furnishing alcohol to a minor resulting in death from a first degree misdemeanor to a fourth degree felony. The Paceks launched a Trevor Pacek memorial scholarship and seek stricter enforcement as they campaign with Rep. Sharon Ray and Governor DeWine backing the effort.

Medina considers archery deer plan amid overpopulation concerns
At meetings held April 19 and May 18 ODNR representative Geoff Westerfield outlined deer management options including targeted removal and urban archery hunting. Residents largely opposed nonlethal methods early on but later favored culling or hunting. Mayor Hanwell urged drafting an archery plan tied to council action while assessing broader management and feeding ordinances.
