Highland University recruit Hunter Winston dominated on the mound as the 13th-seeded Hornets routed No. 7 Strongsville 14-0 in six innings in the Division I Northeast 6 District semifinal at Strongsville. Highland advances to a district final against St. Edward after a 5-4 win by the Terriers over Brunswick. Strongsville ends 16-10. Winston despite lower velocity kept hitters off balance with precise control and a high strikeout total.
In a tight Division I Northeast 6 semifinal, St Edward defeated Brunswick 5-4 after Brunswicks big inning, earning a spot to face Highland on Friday. St Edward improves to 17-11 while Brunswick ends 19-10 after a valiant comeback effort was stalled by one decisive inning.
Cleveland tops New York 7-6 at Progressive Field to take the interleague series. Jose Ramirez notches his 12th homer and 600th career extra-base hit, while Emmanuel Clase closes out the win. Tristan McKenzie faces Jose Quintana in a TV and radio-broadcasted game.
