Rocks Point to Early Photosynthesis in 3.4 Billion-Year-Old Rocks
NASA Ames and UCLA scientists report finding carbon in the Onverwacht strata of South Africa that may mark the transition from nonbiological organic matter to photosynthetic production. They analyzed 39 samples from 32 sites worldwide and note the need for further study to confirm origin.
