A survey by Byron H. Nolte of The Ohio State University finds only 15 percent of drainage outlets are in permanent maintenance. In 18 counties, an average 679 miles of open ditch and 99 miles of tile need maintenance, with many outlets submerged or misaligned and erosion-control structures commonly planned.
Lt. Col. Heyward W. Riley of the Army Recruiting Main Station in Columbus announced a statewide Delayed Entry Program DEP for Ohio high school seniors. Recruits may enlist now and not report for active duty until six months later. Sergeant Ray Horsley said enlistees receive a written guarantee of their enlistment choice and departure date.
