Buckeye Improves Shooting and Rebounding in 71-72 Season
Buckeye finishes third in the Inland Conference with a 10-9 mark, the best York Township record since 1966-67. Under coach Leo Sparr the Bucks increased field goals and free throws, points, rebounds, assists, and blocks, despite more fouls and turnovers. Key leaders Vic Feist and Jerry Coleman dominated the boards with 262 and 236 rebounds as the team outscored opponents 1,218 to 1,177 and averaged 64.1 points per game.

Winter racing fails at Toledo Raceway Park says president
Toledo Raceway Park president Sylvester Jechura announces winter harness racing in northwestern Ohio is not feasible nor profitable after two seasons. He notes lost eight days due to weather cost about $90 000 in purses and that adding winter dates failed to reach break even. The park will host a 50 night summer meeting June 2 through July 29.

Famed Dodger Slugger Zack Wheat Dies at 83
Zack Wheat, Hall of Famer and Brooklyn Dodgers star, died Saturday night at 83. The National League batting champion in 1918 with a .335 average, Wheat spent 14 of 18 major league seasons with the Dodgers and compiled 268 hits and a .317 lifetime average. Funeral services were scheduled for today in Versailles, Missouri.
