Misguided Cherry film review cuts through flashy style
The Russo brothers direct Cherry a gritty semi autobiographical tale of a veteran's war trauma and heroin addiction. Tom Holland delivers a harrowing performance as Cherry though the film overuses gimmicks and stylized visuals, failing to coherently bind its themes of combat, addiction, and prison life.
