DeWine pushes statewide police reform measures
Governor DeWine and Attorney General Yost unveiled proposed statewide police reforms to the General Assembly. The plan includes mandatory psychological exams for applicants, six hours of de escalation and bias training, a standard use of force definition, and mandatory reporting to a central database. It would ban chokeholds except in life threatening cases, require independent investigations for officer shootings and in custody deaths, outfit troopers with body cameras, fund body camera access for local agencies, and create an oversight board to enforce a professional code of conduct. Several Medina County agencies already follow some proposals.
