Ohio rail grant funds to widen Spencer transit links
The Ohio Rail Development Commission and Wheeling Lake Erie Railway were awarded up to 6.87 million dollars by the U S Department of Transportation to build a third connecting track and extend yard tracks in Spencer Yard. The project aims to remove bottlenecks by enabling direct yard access from two subdivisions, part of the CRIS selections for fiscal year 2021. The plan totals about 9.81 million with CRISS covering 70 percent, the Ohio commission five percent, and the railroad 25 percent. Spencer Mayor Dan DeRossett calls the grant a boon for the village.
