Batchelder Seeks Vote On Low Rent Housing Amendment
State Representative William Batchelder along with Donna Pope and Edward Ryder proposed a state constitutional amendment. It would require a public vote before any low rent or public housing project could be built or acquired by a political subdivision. If approved by three-fifths in both houses, it would appear on the November ballot with earliest possible vote in May primary after the election. Speaker Kurfess said the measure has a good chance of House approval when the assembly reconvenes post election.
