Cyclist Emde Overcame Death Twice In 1977 and 1978 Triumphs
David Emde, a rising American motorcycle racer, won the AMA 250cc national road racing title and regional series titles in CMC and AFM. He survived two serious crashes abroad and in Daytona, returning from near death after a 100 mph crash in England and a shoulder injury from a Daytona spill. Emde comes from a long line of racers, with grandfather Joe Emde a 1912 motorcycle policeman and father Floyd winning Daytona in 1948. He earned $600 for the AMA 250 title, aiming for Daytona success in 1978 on a 750cc bike.
