A wild, speculative piece hypes a total solar eclipse on April 8 as a sign the Cleveland Guardians will win the World Series. It notes the eclipse is in the path of totality over Cleveland and claims tickets cover the event, with colorful local nicknames for the phenomenon.
Jim Ingraham notes Cleveland Guardians moved the home opener to 5 10 p m as a total solar eclipse looms over Progressive Field. Fans will see a four minute eclipse window starting 3 13 p m, with manager Terry Francona and rookie Stephen Vogt hopeful this celestial event sparks a positive run for the team.
Medina area swimmers earned at large bids in multiple events at the state qualifiers. Morford, Marinis, Ryba and Thomas placed third in the 200 medley relay and second in the 400 free relay. Wadsworth and Brunswick girls also earned state berths with relay and individual showings led by Schnelzer and Russell.
Wadsworth and Cloverleaf girls bowled at the Stark Division sectional at Eastbury Bowling Center Canton. Wadsworth finished sixth with 2885 pins and Cloverleaf 15th with 2242. Green won with 3637. Top four teams advance to Northeast District in Lorain.
Meara McMahon of Buckeye led Medina County rivals with the district top finish as the Bucks’ sole qualifier. McMahon placed 26th in the 200 yard freestyle with a 2 16.96. Cloverleaf’s Gage Groetz was 28th in 1 55.23 in the 200 free. Colts swimmer Grace Goldsberry finished 28th in the 50 free at 27.48.
Brunswick's Marissa McCartin (125) dominated with four pins and a 13-5 major decision over Columbia's Sarah Napie to win the 125 title. Brunswick placed eighth with Sara King (135) and Jersey Valencia (170) each earning fifth and Angel Placek 125 taking sixth. Medina closes regular season strong with multiple winners on senior night in a 40-6 win over North.
Colts wrestlers Craddock Newman Lerner and Shores lead a 11 placers to dethrone rivals. Craddock pinned White to repeat as 150 champ and Newman turned a major decision into a late pin as Cloverleaf celebrates its first conference crown in 43 years. Standings list Streetsboro Field Woodridge Norton Springfield Coventry Ravenna.
