Highland Schools seeks substitute levy for May ballot
Highland Schools moved to place a substitute levy on the May 4 ballot to replace the expiring 10 year emergency levy of 4.63 million dollars. The substitute would raise the same amount indefinitely without increasing taxes. The district shows the current 5.1 mill rate yields about 156 dollars per year per 100000 in property value and accounts for about 14 percent of the operating budget. The board will vote Jan 11 on the second and final resolution and the district notes growth from new construction since decades.
