Car Pool Insurance Advice From Ohio Insurance Institute

John C. Winchell explains car pools can be insured under medical payments coverage for guests while ride sharing without charging passengers. Charging for rides may classify a driver as a livery operator, potentially voiding private policy coverage and triggering licensing or extra insurance requirements. Employers promoting car pools should verify liability coverage with agents.

Ohio judge touts video trials cutting land cases

In Sandusky a new County Common Pleas Court judge James L. McCrystal used videotaped testimony to finish 13 land appropriation trials in 12 days. He said the approach would have required 25 to 30 days by traditional methods. Attorneys viewed the recordings as McCrystal edited and ruled on objections before juries. The land project concerned private parcels south of Sandusky for widening the Ohio Turnpike. In Columbus, Attorney General William J. Brown was honored at a $100 plate dinner and praised three years of progress in pollution fraud and drugs enforcement, noting the office now funds itself and returns money to Ohio residents.
