Safe Streets crackdown aims to slow speeders this summer
Gastonia Police Chief Robert Helton and Highway Patrol Sgt. John Brodhage describe a June enforcement push to deter speeders and impaired drivers. A wolfpack patrol, increased radar, and visibility are expected to reduce collisions as temps rise and summer travel increases. Officials note two thirds of wrecks stem from speeding, distraction, or impairment, citing past crashes in Gastonia and statewide fatalities.
