Safety a top priority for Gaston schools after Sandy Hook

He cites decades of collaboration since 1996, ongoing drills, and strong teacher and administrator commitment amid aging school facilities. See SAFETY/Page 3A.

German language programs limited in Gaston County
Nine German based firms with over two thousand workers call Gaston County home yet only two public high schools offer German as a foreign language. Ashbrook High teacher Hannah Anderson and Forestview High teacher Sabine Schmid Rankin make up the full Gaston County German teaching staff and seek broader program adoption across schools. They note German skills improve job prospects at German firms like Daimler Trucks North America and Stabilus in the region with about 13,100 German owned jobs across sixteen counties.
